Title: Milo Poi Pounder
Material: Native Hawaiian Milo wood
Size: 8 1/2" tall x 4 3/4" wide
One-of-a-kind Milo wood poi pounder with stand, by master wood turner Dr. Craig Mason. Signed and numbered.
Dr. Mason says: "The Milo Came from Mokapu peninsula, about 1/2 mile from my home. The tree was growing near the road and several branches were extending over the roadway. I happened to be driving our Nissan Leaf along as the tree trimmers were starting up their chainsaws, so I stopped and asked the crew chief if I could have the wood. He was happy to not have to dispose of it. I rushed home and jumped in our van as the pieces were too big to fit in the Leaf. By the time I got back, the branches were bucked up into 4-5 foot long pieces and the crew loaded them into the van for me. I bought them lunch to say thanks. I shared the wood with three other woodturners."
Dr. Mason has been working with wood for more than 32 years, and uses only reclaimed wood...he never purchases wood or cuts down trees.
