The Sacred Fig tree (Ficus religiosa) originataed on the Indian subcontinent and has religious significance in three world religions: Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism. It is believed to be the specie of tree under which Buddha sat when he attained enlightenment. This particular tree grew wild on a farm near Wahiawa and grew too large for the space it was in, so it needed to be removed.
Dr. Mason has been working with wood for more than 32 years, and uses only reclaimed wood...he never purchases wood or cuts down trees.
