Title: Koa Wood Footed Bowl
Material: Native Hawaiian Koa wood, natural edge with burned and textured edge
Size: 6.5" tall x 8.5" wide at widest, 5" wide at narrowest
One-of-a-kind Native Hawaiian Koa wood bowl, by master wood turner Dr. Craig Mason. This piece features a wonderful burned edge with thousands of tiny pinpricks.
The mighty koa tree grew on Mount Tantalus on Oahu and died of old age. Notice the unusual heart-shaped (or butterfly) pattern in the grain, the exquisite curl, and an embedded copper wire. Approximately 20 years before the tree died, this branch had a copper wire wrapped around it, and the tree grew around and over it, encasing it inside the wood.
Dr. Mason has been working with wood for more than 32 years, and uses only reclaimed wood...he never purchases wood or cuts down trees.
