I painted Auntie Irene when she was a spry 100 years old for the Schaefer Portrait Challenge, a triennial competition hosted by the Maui Arts and Culture Center. She's sitting on the stairs of Kalokahi Church playing her handmade cigar box ukulele. (Her father built the church in the 1930's!)
