Mahalo for supporting a Native Hawaiian artist.
This design is from original artwork by Lana'i artist Kendra Medeiros. She was inspired by the leaves of the Naupaka, a Native Hawaiian plant. It has a variety that grows in the mountains and another that grows near the ocean. There are many versions of mo`olelo, or story, that is shared about this plant. A short version tells of two star-crossed lovers who could not be together due to anotherʻs jealousy. Both the mountain and ocean variety bloom half flowers representing the two lovers. When the two flowers are brought together, they are made whole.
The Naupaka signifies and represents love, family, and the support we give no matter where we may be.
