This iconic design is original artwork by Lana'i artist Kendra Medeiros. She was inspired by Pua Kala, or Argemone gluaca, a native Hawaiian plant. This plant is a member of poppy family and was traditionally used for toothaches, nerve pain, and ulcers. It has beautiful white petals with a center yellow stamen. Its leaves and stems have a green prickly appearance. it can be found in the dryland forests throughout Hawaii.
